Kaniwai was founded and designed by Raelynn Broad-Kela, who was born and raised on the island of Oʻahu in the small town of Kāneʻohe. From a young age, she felt a deep connection to the ocean—whether surfing, paddling, or snorkeling in search of shells, the sea was always home to her.

Kaniwai is Raelyn’s passion, woven into every piece of jewelry she creates. She finds inspiration in nature—especially in the moment when the wind rushes in just before the calm of the rain. From that love came our names: Makani, meaning wind, and Nawai, meaning waters.
